Christ Took Our Place

Romans 5 : 6 -11

I have chosen this text tonight from Romans chapter 5 verses 6 through 11 because I believe it speaks to every person, Christian or non-Christian. If you are not christians this is what God is saying to you, and if you are Christians then it needs to be reminded to us quite often. It says for when we were still without strength Christ died for the ungodly, I had no strength of my own to be able to go to Heaven. None of us had a strength to be able to get to Heaven. Christ died for me and paid the price, we need to be reminded of that as Christians. That we serve Jesus Christ and yet he's the one that did it all.

That he is the one that paid the price, for when we were without strength Christ died. Let me ask you a question. Did Christ die for the good, the sweet, the generous kind people? No! Christ died for the ungodly, and I pray that the Holy Spirit burns this truth into our hearts. That Christ died for the ungodly and that qualifies me!

Jesus Christ died for the ungodly and at one time we were all ungodly! At one time we were all sinners. At one time there was a choice that we had to make between serving the world or serving Jesus Christ, and accepting him as my redeeming Saviour. The Bible says that all have sinned, not one person in this earth can say I have not sinned, but the Bible says that All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Let me ask you another question; When did God start loving you? Was it when you surrendered your life to Jesus Christ? Was it when you lifted up your hand and you said I accept Jesus Christ when the Pastor asked this or the Evangelist asked; Who wants to accept Jesus Christ, and you lifted your hand and said I do. Was that when God started loving you? Was it when you prayed the sinners prayer? Did God say; Oh, Isn't that nice, I'm going to love them now, they prayed the sinners prayer.

The Bible says that in verse 8, that God demonstrated his love towards us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for the ungodly. When God created the earth, he demonstrated a great power. When God created the earth, he showed us by his word that there was get power in his words. God said; LIGHT BE, and LIGHT WAS, the Hebrew says, the Hebrew does not say; LET THERE BE LIGHT, the Hebrew says; LIGHT BE AND LIGHT WAS. God demonstrated his power by creating the world. God demonstrated his great and awesome power by raising Jesus Christ from the dead. He demonstrated his LOVE towards us! He demonstrated his love towards us. While we were yet sinners, when you were still ungodly, The Bible says before the foundation of the world. God came up with a plan and that plan was to SAVE YOU.

He had a plan! While you were still in your sin, while you were still ungodly, GOD LOVED YOU! GOD LOVED YOU!!! None of us can stand here and say; It's because of what I did. No. Because he died for us in our ungodly state, I cannot boast, I cannot brag of what I have done. Some people might say; Oh, the Lord died for me for he saw that I was doing my best. God died for me, Jesus died for me because he knew I was trying very very hard to be good.

He knew I had potential. Did Christ die for you because you had potential! No! You see, the Grace of God is complete! Christ died for me when I was still a sinner. When you look at this person up here in this Pulpit, When you look at me, you are looking at the Grace of God, because 10 years ago, if someone said, I was going to be a Preacher, I would have laughed at you.

I would have said; NO WAY! You see, I did believe in Jesus Christ, I was not Born-Again. And then one day; someone came to me and told me that I was a sinner, I couldn't understand that, because I was trying to be a good person. I was trying to live a good life. But I couldn't get into Heaven. Someone told me that I needed to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, I couldn't understand that because I didn't believe in Jesus Christ. Someone explained to me, that it wasn't what I did, but that it was Adam did, Adam sinned and transmitted that sin to all the Human race, and by Adams transgression, by Adams sin, I was made a sinner. Christ died for me while I was still a sinner, when I was in and ungodly state, GOD LOVED ME!!! (Repeat after me) GOD LOVED ME! Does God love you less now that you are his child? You're become a child of God and he loves you more than you will ever know. Isn't it interesting how so often in our minds we imagine God as being disgusted, or disappointed with us, I have. At times I thought or I think that Oh, God doesn't love me any more. I made a mistake. I failed, I did something wrong today, I said something wrong today, Oh, God is angry at me, God is disgusted with me, God is disappointed with me, or he is discouraged with me, or he is finished with me. Many times in our imaginations, that takes place. Many times satan would come to our minds and tell us; God doesn't love you any more. Look what you did today, look what you said today. We can just imagine, God having negative attitudes towards us. But remember that God is not this way.

That is not his character. If while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me, God demonstrated or displayed his love towards me, now that I am a child of God. But now that I am trying to live a life that is pleasing to him, now that I seek to walk in fellowship with him and in that love, surely he does not love me any less! HE LOVES YOU AND HE LOVES ME!!! So God displayed toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, much more then being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from WRATH through Him. You see I am saved from the wrath that is coming upon the earth, that is the wrath of God that shall be revealed against the ungodliness and unrighteousness of men that Paul spoke about in chapter 1 of Romans.

We shall be saved from wrath through Jesus Christ. Their is no other way! It's only through Jesus! You cannot be saved from wrath by how much money you have, you cannot be saved from wrath by how much possessions you have. There is a day coming, the Book of Revelation says, when Gods wrath will be poured out upon the earth, and if you are not in Christ Jesus today, if you are not in Christ Jesus the, you are still under the wrath of God. There is only one way to escape the wrath of God and that is through the BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST! Only one way! And you can receive the salvation from God's wrath right now!

You can receive the NEW-BIRTH right now. You can be BORN-AGAIN right now where you sit if you never have before. You can pray and say Lord, forgive me, come into my heart, I believe that you were raised from dead, I BELIEVE THAT GOD RAISED YOU FROM THE DEAD! And I speak with my mouth and I believe in my heart, that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, and the Bible says that you shall be saved. You can do that right now. You can pray that prayer at any time. Anywhere, and Jesus Christ will come into your life and SALVATION WILL RESULT!

Its interesting, that the day of tribulation is called the "Day of Gods Wrath", now in the Book of Revelation, in the opening of the sixth seal, as the People on earth cry for the rocks of the mountains to fall on them, they pray. They pray a prayer, Hide us from the face of th Lamb, for the day of his wrath has come! But you know something. THANK GOD.

Thank God if Jesus loved me when I was a sinner and died for me, how much more being justified by His Blood, or cleansed by Hid Blood, will I be saved from the wrath to come through Him! You see its the Blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all sin. Its the Blood of Jesus that Justified us. Its the Blood of Jesus that makes us righteous. You see, you need to understand that. For if we were enemies, an enemy to God, in that state we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more the Bible says, much more, being reconciled to God by the death of His Son, we will be saved by His life. Now, His death could reconcile me to God, How much more can His life reconcile me to God, as He lives to make Intercession for me. Not only that, but we also rejoice in God, our Lord Jesus Christ, through our Lord Jesus Christ, though whom we have received the reconciliation.

Now that word in you Bible means Atonement. Atonement. The Atoning Blood of Jesus or the Atoning Blood of bulls and lambs. The word Atonement is a different word in the New Testament then it is in the Old Testament. The word translated Atonement in the Old Testament is used quite a bit in Leviticus as you deal with various sacrificial offerings. Bulls, Goats ect. The Jewish people would bring bulls and goats and present them as and ATONEMENT for their sins to the Lord. (AND THUS THEY SHALL MAKE AN ATONEMENT FOR THEIR SINS.) The Hebrew word is Chofar, it means simply; A shirt is a covering, it covers my body, you could say that this is an Atonement, it simply covers.

It could only make a covering for sin, bulls and goats. It could never take away sin! It could not put away sin. The Bible of Hebrews tell us that it was IMPOSSIBLE for the Blood of Bulls and Goats to put away the sins. So the Old Testament sacrifices were only looking forward to the sacrifice that God would make one day in sending his only begotten Son, that He would become an Atonement for me, He would become a sacrifice for me and he was a Lamb without spot or blemish, Peter said; in his Book that we are redeemed from our vain empty living, not with the Blood of bulls and goats, but with the Blood of Jesus Christ. Who was SLAIN as a LAMB. Again the Greek word for Atonement, It can be best understood if you break it up; ATONEMENT, AT-ONE-WITH. (Repeat after me) AT-ONE-WITH. Atonement; At-One-With. We need to remember this.

This is saying that I have been made One with God, I am no longer separate from God, I am one with him, my sins have been Atoned for. I have been made one with God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for me! So what do I do? I do? When I realize that I am one with God, That I have a relationship with Jesus Christ, that I have a relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ, then I have fellowship with God, you see we all still sin, Christians sin. We all still sim. But my relationship with God as a Christian never changes.

It will never affect you relationship, it will only affect your fellowship. 2 different words, RELATIONSHIP and FELLOWSHIP we need to understand that. So I rejoice. What do I do? I rejoice in the fact that my sins have been forgiven PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE! I rejoice that I have been made one with God through Jesus Christ who is has made this possible. That Alienation that once existed between God and man no longer exists. Isaiah said; (That God's hand is not short, that he cannot save, neither is his ear heavy that he cannot hear, but your sins have separated you from God.) But now that the sins have been put away, Jesus has made this At-One-Ment or Atonement. He has brought me into A Onement Relationship with God the Father. And you need to remember something; "THAT HE WHO HAS THE SON HAS LIFE!" You have been FORGIVEN! As a Christian, your sins are forgiven Past, Present and Future. That you have been made one with god, that you can call Him Father. That God loved you before the foundation of the World. GOD LOVED YOU! He knew you.

He knows every hair on you head. And he knows every person in this room by name. And again I say unto you; That if you do not have the RELATIONSHIP with God the Father, you can leave here today with that relationship, by asking Jesus Christ to come into your heart, and believing that he was raised the dead, and you walk out of here ATONED. You walk out of here At-One-Ment, or at one with, and your sins will be forgiven. JESUS LOVES YOU! So remember this; HE WHO HAS THE SON HAS LIFE!!! Amen.
